Analog security camera systems are designed around a relatively simple concept: one or more analog cameras – which must be powered, obviously – send their signal(s) through a coaxial cable to a DVR or other recording device. Analog cameras work by way of interlaced transmission, which means they capture video at intervals known as “fields” and transmitted to the receiver. Two fields together make up a video frame, which is what you’d pause on if you were reviewing recorded data. These features give the camera the ability to properly expose a subject behind a bright background so a face can be recorded properly and also to record in starlight with the correct shutter speed.
